NATIONAL STAR AWARDS TO HONOUR CANADA'S BEST EVENTS
March 11, 2010 - Vancouver, BC – Canada Place Corporation is proud to announce Canada Day at Canada Place 2009 ‘Welcoming the World to Canada’s Games’ has been nominated for three Canadian Event Industry National Star Awards: Best Festival, Best Public Entertainment Event and Outstanding Logistical Achievement. Canada Day at Canada Place 2009 took home the 2009 BC Event Award for Best Festival at the Canadian Special Events & Meeting Expo in October.
“As a Canadian icon, Canada Place is thrilled to produce award winning events for our community in celebration of our nation,” states Brett Calder, Manager of Communications & Public Affairs, Canada Place Corporation. “In 2010, we look forward to continuing to provide an Inspirationally Canadian destination for people to come together in celebration, to proudly don the maple leaf, and to share in our street festival, parade and fireworks show.”
In 2009, Canada Place Corporation presented its largest marquee Canada Day event to date and welcomed 175,000 guests to Canada Place and its surrounding streets for a one of a kind street festival. The marquee event was followed by the inaugural Canada Day Parade, enjoyed by 100,000 spectators, and the two-barge Burrard Inlet Fireworks Show viewed by 400,000 spectators. The free daytime street festival encompassed six city blocks and neighbouring Harbour Green Park and featured non-stop Canadian entertainment. Canada Day at Canada Place is made possible by the tremendous support of our partners including the Department of Canadian Heritage, the Celebrate Canada Committee for British Columbia, and the Department of National Defense. We would also like to thank our many corporate and media sponsors for their support and dedication to this event.
