Canada Day at Canada Place a Resounding Success!

07/02/10

July 1, 2010 – Vancouver, BC – Waving flags, red and white apparel and maple leafs as far as the eye could see— it was all part of Canada Day at Canada Place 2010. This year Canada Place celebrated across the country in both Vancouver and Ottawa where Canada Place’s “Canadian Spirit Booth” made its debut at Canada Day in the Capital.

Canada Day at Canada Place is the largest Canada Day event outside of Ottawa. The indoor/outdoor festival followed by the 2nd annual Canada Day Parade and two-barge Burrard Inlet Fireworks Show gave the community 13 hours of free family fun in recognition of our country’s 143rd birthday.

Four stages, acrobatic feats, the Canadian Forces and Navy Centennial, BC Soccer World, the Citizenship Ceremony, Harbour Green Adventure Park, mass rendition of O Canada at noon and the relighting of the Cauldron made for an unforgettable event.

"We were thrilled bring the community together during Canada Day at Canada Place and for the first time join in our Capital’s birthday celebration,” said Mike Shardlow, President & CEO, Canada Place Corporation. "Through our Going National program Canada Place is travelling across the country to instil and inspire national pride and Canada Day in the Capital is the perfect start to this program.” Going National promotes national pride through participation in community events and the forging of relationships across the country.

Following Canada Day at Canada Place in Vancouver, the Burrard Inlet Fireworks Society proudly presented the Canada Day Parade where 110,000 people lined the city streets to cheer on the dynamic entries. To cap off the evening, the Canada Day Burrard Inlet Fireworks Show lit up the sky with diamonds in a two-barge display simulcast by Shore 104.3 FM.
