2011 Entertainment Line Up and Activities Announced
May 18, 2011, Vancouver, BC – Canada Place is pleased to announce BC-based Coast Capital Savings as title sponsor of Canada Day at Canada Place 2011. Their support of this year’s celebration at the iconic landmark promises to make Canada’s 144th birthday festivities at Canada Place the biggest and best yet.
On July 1st guests will dance to acts from across the country; taste cuisine from every region; be moved by powerful performances; be inspired by art; and view our colourful culture together for one day at Canada Place.
"Investing in the communities where we work and live is a huge part of what we do at Coast Capital Savings,” explains Wendy Lachance, Director of Community Leadership, Coast Capital Savings. “A portion of our earnings are invested back into our communities each year which totalled a $4.6 million contribution in 2010 alone. Canada Day at Canada Place offers free, family fun and celebrates who we are as a community – that is something that we are happy to be a part of.”
“We are honoured to have Coast Capital Savings as our lead corporate sponsor in hosting the largest Canada Day event outside of Ottawa,” said Mike Shardlow, President & CEO, Canada Place Corporation. “We welcome guests from across the nation to join us and experience a full 13 hours of festivities, all of which recognize our strong Canadian spirit and diverse culture.”
On July 1st guests can choose from a wide range of art, entertainment and activities with Canada @ Play, Innovation Nation, Creative Nation and over 30 bands on 5 stages. Highlights include The Irish Descendants and Chic Gamine, two Canadian acts that have risen to international acclaim; Montréal’s afro-pop group, H’sao; plus local favourite Dal Richards. The Coast Capital Savings Mountain View Main Stage will be the site of the ever-popular citizenship ceremony, hosted by Global TV anchor, Chris Gailus. The day’s programming culminates with a classic Canadian performance by the Grapes of Wrath.
New this year is Face of Canada, a compelling art exhibit by Canadian artist William Meire. Making its international debut at Canada Day at Canada Place, Face of Canada is a collection of over 100 original oil portraits of notable Canadians who have helped shape the diverse fabric of our nation including hockey great Bobby Hull, Sir. John A MacDonald, Leslie Nielsen, Sarah McLachlan and Michael J. Fox.
As always, Canada Day at Canada Place will include live entertainment, multicultural cuisine, the kids’ zone, parade and fireworks.
